Dem Rep Cummings: ‘We Have Taken This Democracy for Granted’ And Gov’t Will ‘Become Afraid of the People’

On Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “For the Record,” Representative Elijah Cummings (D-MD) stated that “We have to make sure that we uphold our democracy…we have taken this democracy for granted.” And “what’s going to happen in our country is the government is going to become afraid of the people, as they stand up and make their voices heard.”

Cummings said, “I think that what’s going to happen in our country is the government is going to become afraid of the people, as they stand up and make their voices heard.”

He further stated, “[O]ur major institutions are being threatened in every way. Look, the right to vote, they told President Obama that he couldn’t appoint a Supreme Court justice, the CIA, the FBI are being challenged. I could go on and on. This is definitely  a struggle for the sole of our democracy.”

Cummings also argued, “We have to make sure that we uphold our democracy. And a lot of people — I think what has happened, Greta, is that we have taken this democracy for granted. But I’ve got to tell you, I have give it to President Trump. He has given the American people a major wake up call.”
