Friday on CNN’s “The Situation Room,” Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN) said President Donald Trump’s tweets about tapes of his conversations with former FBI Director James Comey were meant to intimidate.
Carson said, “I think what is more problematic is the kind of intimidation that is taking place with a sitting U.S. president. I think it’s a form of bullying. I think it’s embarrassing to our country and I think it jeopardizes our national security ultimately.”
“I think what’s taking place is President Trump has always acted in a way that’s kind of off the handle. He’s improvisational. I think you have to be more disciplined than he has been,” he continued. “I’m worrying about — who are his handlers? Who is allowing him to do these kind of reckless things? That will not only disrupt his legacy. It jeopardizes the moral of our country. I think if you look at the employees of our federal government right now, they’re worried, they’re concerned. Folks in the intelligence committee are concerned because this president is out of control.”
“He obviously tried to intimidate Mr. Comey. It did not work. It has not worked. He’s tried to intimidate the media. He’s tried to intimidate the intel community. His bluff has been called. I think we are looking at the emperor without clothes and unfortunately, historians will not be kind to this president.”
He added,”Of course he’s going to tweet things that act as distractions. President Trump has lost most of his credibility at this point.”
