WaPo’s Ashley Parker: Russia Issue ‘Very Complicated,’ Difficult for Trump Voters ‘to Take Stock of’

Wednesday on MSNBC, Washington Post White House reporter and MSNBC senior political analyst Ashley Parker suggested the average Trump voter was not interested in the investigations into Russian meddling during the 2016 election because it is “very complicated” and Russian names “are incredibly hard to pronounce.”

After host Hallie Jackson played a clip of Virginia Trump voter Lori Valantiejus saying, “Everybody has said there is nothing illegal about what he did. It might have been a stupid choice, but we all make stupid choices,” Parker said, “Reporters report on news, of course, and are going to continue to uncover that. But I do think it is worth remembering in the Beltway when there is often a frenzy talking stock in how does play out in the country. And most importantly what does and doesn’t matter to voters.”

She continued, “And in a way, it’s understandable that Russia is not the most trenchant issue, it’s not related to their day to day lives — if they can drop their kids at daycare, if they can put food on the table — and it’s very complicated. These names are incredibly hard to pronounce. I mean truly there are lots of confusing connections, there are now eight people, they dripped out one by one, I mean there is not an easy narrative to take stock of.”
