Tuesday on Politico’s “Off Message” podcast, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said the Republican leadership’s effort to defund her organization was not in line with the views of the base.
Richards said, “We have a lot of staff here who are Republicans. We have board members who are Republicans. Again they have sort of an economic view or have other issues, but on this issue absolute their party has left them behind.”
She added, ‘The last poll I saw right before the House was trying to pass the bill that would have ended access to Planned Parenthood, 80 percent of the voters in the Quinnipiac poll said they supported federal funding for Planned Parenthood for preventive services which is what is at risk. That means literally millions of Republicans — many millions. So actually, I don’t think the Republican party leadership is listening to the base.”
