Waters: Arpaio Pardon ‘Was a Signal’ That Trump Would Pardon Anyone Facing Criminal Charges Over Russia

On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “All In,” Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) argued President Trump’s pardon of former Maricopa County, AZ Sheriff Joe Arpaio (R) was a message that he would pardon anyone who finds themselves facing criminal charges in the Russia investigation.

Waters stated, “[T]his president, who in your face said, ‘You mess with me, anybody that you try to indict or you try to criminalize, I’m going to pardon them and I’ll show you, just as I’ve done with Joe Arpaio.’ So, I like the idea that Mueller is not frightened. He’s not backing he is going to do his job.”

Anchor Chris Hayes asked, “Your point is that you felt that what he was communicating with the Arpaio pardon was that, that essentially he would be there to pardon people that might find themselves in the teeth of a criminal investigation?”

She answered, “Yes, that is correctly stated, that, I do believe it was a signal. I don’t know what he said, how he said it, what he said, but I do believe he was sending a signal.”
