Behar to Huckabee: ‘How Can You Let Your Daughter Defend’ Trump?

Wednesday on ABC’s “The View,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and her father former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR) defended President Donald Trump against the attacks from the show’s co-hosts.

Partial transcript as follows:

BEHAR: Well, you know, let me talk to you, Mike, because yes, you are my favorite Republican. Trump, the things he says about women are horrendous and we all know that. So let’s not pretend that he hasn’t said horrifying things about women. We know that. Just nod. You don’t have to say anything, just nod because you know it’s true. Having said that, how can you let your daughter defend him?

HUCKABEE: He’s also empowered women. He has given my daughter and incredible opportunity. Look at the women he has hired not only in the White House but also the women that he’s hired in the private sector. First ever to give a woman the opportunity to be a contractor on a huge Manhattan job. I mean, when people say he’s this, look at his history. People say he’s a racist. He’s been on this show many times.

GOLDBERG: And I said it to him to his face.

HUCKABEE: But Whoopi he’s not.

HOSTIN: You’re saying he doesn’t have a history, governor, with his father precluding people of color from living in his buildings? There’s a well-documented history of racism. How can you say he’s not a racist?

HUCKABEE: He’s the guy that opened up Mar-a-Lago to Jewish people when they had been shut out.

HOSTIN: He didn’t have black people there.

HUCKABEE: No. no. He has hired African-Americans to work in his organization, empowered them in many ways. Is Donald Trump a perfect man? No. But I don’t know who we could afford to put in that job. But I feel like I know him and if I didn’t have confidence in his integrity, I would never encourage my daughter to work for him.
