Friday at a press briefing on Capitol Hill, when asked about President Donald Trump’s decision to withhold insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Democrats might use emergency spending bills as “vehicles ” to restore the payments.
Pelosi said, “There are other vehicles. There’s a stand-alone vehicle, a vehicle that’s attached to a supplemental, or down the road in the omnibus, but that’s pretty far down the road. Hopefully, we could resolve it sooner. There are a number of Republican members who now understand what this means to their constituency who might be receptive to this. ”
She continued, “We’d like it to be in a free-standing bill next Tuesday.”
She said that it could be attached to disaster aid funding, adding, “I was not suggesting any one of them. I’m just saying these are the vehicles that are leaving the station. There may be others, we’ll see.”
