Booker: Flake’s Retirement ‘A Terrible Sign’ That the Senate ‘Is Breaking Down’

While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) stated that Senator Jeff Flake’s (R-AZ) announcement of his retirement earlier in the day is a troubling sign that the institution of the US Senate is “breaking down.”

Booker said, “I think this is a sign — a terrible sign. Unfortunately, this sign is a glowing, flashing neon sign that this institution is breaking down. And that a guy like that, who is such an honorable man, a truth teller as he sees it, is leaving the Senate. And he’s — it’s just a bad sign.”
