Last week on his ESPN Radio show, Stephen A. Smith ripped Cleveland Cavaliers guard JR Smith for wearing a hoodie on the bench, saying the hoodie could remind white people of Trayvon Martin.
“[I]n game one, when they played against Boston, JR Smith was sitting on that bench in the fourth quarter with a hoodie on. I don’t know why the hell Nike made these damn uniforms that have hoods attached to it, by the way. You’ve got a lot of those white folks in the audience that’s going to think it’s Trayvon Martin being revisited. And I’m not joking about it. The bench is no place for somebody to be wearing hoodies,” ESPN’s Smith stated.
JR Smith later responded to Stephen A., wondering what the hoodie on the bench has to do with reminding white people of Martin.
