Friday on MSNBC, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) said the Republicans tax bill was skewed towards benefiting the wealthy and described it as “rearranging the chairs at the country club.”
Wyden said, “This whole process has been a sham. The fact is this is a historically unpopular giveaway to the multinational corporations at the expense of the middle class. And the Republicans know if there’s any real sunlight on this, this bill’s going to dry up. And that’s why they’re moving with the speed of light.”
He continued, “This bill is still skewed dramatically in favor of the multinational corporations and those at the top. And the president repeatedly said he didn’t think he should be getting any tax relief. He’s going to get a whole lot of tax relief. I mean, the top rate is going to go down. The top rate’s going to go from 39 to 37. I’m telling you, the middle class writes 70% of the economic activity in the country are getting the shaft here, and they know it.”
He added, “In effect, they are rearranging the chairs at the country club. That’s really what has been going on for days.”
