Biden: Trump Should Go Before Mueller – Taking the 5th Would Be ‘Abdicating the Responsibility of the Presidency’

During an interview broadcast on Thursday’s edition of MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” former Vice President Joe Biden argued that President Trump should sit down with Special Counsel Robert Mueller and that if the president took the Fifth, he would be abdicating his responsibility as president.

Biden said, “I think he should go before the counsel. He says he wants to do it, do it, go ahead. … A president should be prepared to answer the questions about one of the most serious security breaches that’s occurred in American history, Russia attempting to effect an impact on the American electoral process.”

Biden added that if the president takes the Fifth, he would be “abdicating the responsibility of the presidency of the United States. The idea that a president of the United States says, ‘I’m not — I take the Fifth. I might incriminate myself in something that is this consequen[tial],’ you know, that to me, it’s constitutionally permissible as an individual. It is an abhorrent notion as a sitting president of the United States of America.”
