Durbin on Trump’s Negotiating Skills: ‘I Can’t Believe This Man Wrote a Book Called ‘The Art of the Deal”

Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) criticized President Donald Trump’s negotiating skills after his interactions on an immigration deal that would include a solution for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy.

Durbin said, “We came to him with a bipartisan bill, Lindsey Graham, myself, Flake, Cory Gardner, we put together a bill with Mike Bennet, Bob Menendez and said here it is, Mr. President, we’re giving a lot more than we ever thought we would. It’s a compromise. He rejected it.”

He continued, “Stephen Miller was in overdrive. As soon as we produced the bill and started calling for the vote, they put out a four-page memo on this bill that we proposed, that was the most scurrilous, ineffective and ridiculous arguments. And they opened it up and said we are going to flood this country with illegal immigrants with this bill.”

He added, “As Chuck Schumer often says he is like negotiating with Jell-O. I can’t believe this man wrote a book called ‘The Art of the Deal.'”
