Steve Schmidt on Trump’s Immigration Remarks: ‘Inherent Racism’ Speaks to the ‘Ugliest Threads in the Country’

Thursday on MSNBC’s “Deadline,” former Bush strategist  Steve Schmidt said President Donald Trump’s remarks today about immigration embodied “nativism” and “inherent racism.”

Schmidt said, “I will say this. The appalling lack of dignity inherent in those remarks, that’s the President of the United States of America. It’s just extraordinary, the lack of any comportment in his personal space.”

He continued, “He sounds like a drunk guy in Queens at the end of the bar talking complete and total nonsense. The nativism, it’s inherent racism this notion of people are coming here, and they’re black, and they’re brown, and they’re rapists, and they’re murderers. That’s what this is. That’s what he’s doing, he is speaking to the ugliest threads in the country and in the country’s history. When he talks that way, it shows he has no conception about this country.”
