Although the Associated Press has declared that Hillary Clinton has officially won the Democratic nomination, the White House is not ready to declare President Barack Obama’s former Secretary of State the winner.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest described the process as “ongoing” during the daily press briefing this afternoon.

“The White House views the situation as ongoing,” Earnest said, reminding reporters that Democratic voters in six states were currently voting for their choice for president.

“I’m not going to declare a winner from here,” Earnest said, reassuring that no one in the White House had described either of the candidates as the “presumptive nominee.”

He hinted that after tonight’s primaries in North Dakota, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, South Dakota, and California, the end result of the nomination might be more clear.

“We will continue to hold the position that we’ve held for several months now, which is to be fair, and neutral and give the Democratic voters across the country the opportunity to make this decision,” he said.
