Bernie Sanders ‘Still a Candidate,’ Says Campaign Manager

“The political revolution must continue,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on Thursday via a live online video broadcast directed at his grassroots supporters from Burlington, Vermont.

For campaign manager Jeff Weaver, at least, that means Sanders is “still a candidate,” despite appearances to the contrary.

“Yes, he is. Yes, he is. Yes, he is. He’s an active candidate for president,” Weaver told MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

In his video. Sanders vowed to work with Hillary Clinton in order to ensure Donald Trump will be defeated. Sanders said:

It is no secret that Secretary Clinton and I have very strong disagreements on some very, very important issues. It’s also true that our views are quite close on others. I look forward, in the coming weeks, to continued discussion between the two campaigns to make certain your voices are heard and that the Democratic Party passes the most progressive platform in its history and the Democrats actually fight for that agenda.

“I also look forward to working with Secretary Clinton to transform the Democratic Party so that it becomes a party of working people and young people and not just wealthy campaign contributors,” he added.

Sanders did not waver from his insistence that he will take the fight for the party’s nomination all the way to the anticipated Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this July.

He also renewed his calls to cut military spending by targeting the Department of Defense — an issue Breitbart News queried him about recently.

Most of all, Sanders called upon his revolutionary disciples to take up their political arms and engage in grass-roots warfare at the ground level by running for political office:

We can no longer ignore the fact that, sadly, the current Democratic Party leadership has turned its back on dozens of states and has allowed right-wing politicians to win elections in some states with virtually no opposition, including some of the poorest states in our country.

I hope very much that many of you watching tonight are prepared to engage at that level. Please go to my website at to learn more about how you can effectively run for office, or get involved in politics, at the local or state level… We need new blood in the political process. And you are that new blood.
