Chaffetz: State Dept. Used Classified Photo at Public Hearing on Libya

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) on Wednesday — at a House Oversight Committee hearing on Libya — said the State Department made a photo of the U.S. consulate in Libya public after telling members of Congress over the weekend that the photo was classified.

According to The Hill, Chaffetz said American lives were being putting at risk by making the information public.

Elijah Cummings (D-MD) claimed people could Google the picture, trying to debunk Chaffetz’s allegations.

Committee chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) said he would “side with the administration that you have a right to show what you want to show” but noted the administration could not tell lawmakers a photo was classified and then publicly display the photo at a public hearing.
