Sales of George Orwell's '1984' Jump on Amazon.com

The Obama administration’s penchant for collecting public data has been a boon to comedians, but it’s also doing wonders for George Orwell’s heirs.

Orwell’s cautionary tale 1984, the novel that introduced the term Big Brother into our lexicon, is selling madly on Amazon.com thanks in part to recent NSA headlines about aggressive domestic eavesdropping.

The book’s sales are up 91 percent as of today on the site, though as the story continues to work its way through the news cycle those figures could grow.

It’s not the first classic book to thrive in the Age of Obama. Sales of Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged jumped after President Obama took the oath of office.
