Gay Artist Project Is To Have Daily Casual Sex For A Year

A gay performance artist plans to have sex with a different man every day for a year for his latest ‘project’. Mischa Badasyan told Mic.com his work, entitled “Save the Date” was inspired “by the gay condition, Taiwanese artists and French philosophy.”

He plans to start in September and ‘work’ on the project for a whole year. In an interview his project was said to “extrapolate this cold, often corporate sense of loneliness into his sex life, exploring non-places in reality, in interpersonal relationships and on the Internet, the ultimate non-place.

“By meeting up with men in places such as parks, Badasyan will explore what happens to sexual interaction when it occurs in a non-place. It’s an experience he knows about from the time he spent performing in Glasgow, while simultaneously looking for men.”

The 26-year-old’s work is dividing the art world, with some experts questioning whether his work is anything more than an elaborate way to participate in casual sex. It is also illegal to have sex in public in most European countries, so any meetings in the park would have to end in a private location.

Russian born Badasyan, who now lives in Berlin, is no stranger to casual sex. He is very open about his escapades in the public parks of Glasgow in Scotland. He said he would go out “every night and have sex with guys … until 5 o’clock, 6 o’clock in the morning… I felt very bad, I was crying all the time. I am always sad after these kind of meetings.”

Despite his claims of unhappiness he still admits to being a regular on gay hook-up websites like GayDar and GayRomeo. He says trawling these sites has allowed him to meet lots of people, some of whom have invited him to festival and other countries. But he does not always need new technology “I might just find someone in a sex club or in the park cruising” he explained.

He claims that this project is easier because he is gay: “It’s easier for a gay man to do this kind of project,” he said. “It’s why I feel lonely. Straight people don’t have these kind of applications, so many gay chats, in terms of cruising, sex clubs, sex bars, they don’t have as many opportunities as gay people.”

He has not publicly stated what steps, if any, he is going to take to ensure his own health is protected. But it is known that gay men engaging in anonymous sex through websites and fetish clubs are much more likely catch sexually transmitted diseases.

Mr Badasyan’s previous project entitled “Porno Chic” allowed members of the public to watch adult entertainment videos with him on a projector.
