David Cameron just delivered a masterclass in speech-giving in front of a pro-UK audience in Aberdeen in Scotland.

Most regular readers will recognise that I’m not exactly Cameron’s greatest fan – but his somewhat blubbery, honest speech on Monday afternoon will likely go down as one of his best.
The reason?
He touched on almost every major issue related to the Scottish referendum debate without labouring any points. It makes you wonder why the opposition to the ‘Yes’ campaign was primarily run from Labour HQ, which has consistently failed to deliver a solid message, leading to the precarious position our union finds itself in with just 3 days to go until Scots go to the polls.
Here was my favourite part:
“So this is our message to the people of Scotland. We want you to stay. Head and heart and soul, we want you to stay. Please: don’t mix up the temporary and the permanent.
…
“We are better together. So as you reach your final decision, please: Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t be a proud Scot and a proud Brit. Don’t lose faith in what this country is – and what we can be. Don’t forget what a great United Kingdom you are part of. Don’t turn your backs on what is the best family of nations in the world… and the best hope for your family in this world.
“So please, from all of us: Vote to stick together… Vote to stay… Vote to save our United Kingdom.”
It makes sense that the Prime Minister had to pull out the best speech of his premiership. It may well be his last.
If Scotland votes Yes to Independence on Thursday it would be hard to see how the Conservative Party could leave him in charge of the party and the country.
Let’s hope it worked…
