A prominent Al-Qaeda propagandist last year listed crowded sporting events as targets the terrorist organization could hit.
Abu Musab al-Suri, writing in Inspire, “the online magazine of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP),” listed “crowded sports arenas” as one of the “most important enemy targets” on which the terror group could focus.
“This is done by targeting human crowds in order to inflict maximum human losses,” he wrote. “This is very easy since there are numerous such targets such as crowded sports arenas, annual social events, large international exhibitions, crowded market-places, skyscrapers, crowded buildings … etc.”
According to CNS News, an intelligence group based in the United States that monitors jihadist websites flagged the article on Monday after the Boston Marathon bombings.
No organization has claimed responsibility for the Boston Marathon bombings that killed three and injured at least 176 people, and authorities are on the lookout for a “darker skinned” male who may be a foreigner who suspiciously left the scene with a black backback and hoodie sweatshirt. But authorities still have not been able to figure if the Boston Marathon bombings were foreign acts of terror.
