Bears WR Marshall to Pay $10,500 for Green Shoes

The No Fun League, otherwise known as the NFL, struck again this weekend. They are going to fine Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall $5,250 because he wore green shoes in honor of Mental Health Awareness Week. He said he would match the fine and donate it to charity, bringing the total to $10,500.

Marshall is fined for violating the league’s uniform rules when he wore the shoes Thursday night against the New York Giants. In fact, the NFL was not going to allow him on the field at first, but eventually “compromised.” October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the NFL is once again going overboard with all the pink on the field, including pink flags. TV stations are making their yellow first down line pink.

On July 31, 2011, Marshall announced he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and he wanted to bring awareness to the illness. He struggled with it through his life, but was only recently diagnosed. People with the illness are unable to process emotions, fear abandonment, and feel lonely. He spent three months at Boston’s McLean Hospital and received proper treatment. This helped him change as aperson and player. Now he is a star on the Bears and Cutler’s favorite target.

The Brandon Marshall Foundation brings awareness to BPD and raises funds to provide help for those who need it.
