Obama Economy: Boston College Lists Legal Job With $10K Salary

A law degree from a solid university is no longer a guarantee of a high-paying job in the Obama economy. One Boston law firm, Gilbert & O’Bryan LLP, has posted a full-time associate position opening via the Boston College Law School website. The pay? Just $10,000 per year. “What we emphasize is that we do provide the opportunity for new associates to have their own case load right from the start,” said partner Larry O’Bryan.

Full-time minimum wage workers in Boston can earn over $15,000. That means that the lucky lawyer who gets this position can expect to earn about $4.81 per hour. Most Boston College law graduates earn $160,000 per year if they can snag a lucrative slot at a top law firm. A spokesperson for BC Law said, “In this challenging legal environment, we feel that it’s better to post any opportunity that offers our graduates a chance to gain legal experience. Other job postings on the same site offer far more in terms of compensation.”
