Romney Supports Audit of Federal Reserve

Mitt Romney said he believed the Federal Reserve should be audited when asked at a town hall event Tuesday in New Hampshire.

“Very plain and simple, the answer is yes,” Romney said in New Hampshire. “The Federal Reserve should be accountable. We should see what they’re doing.”

Romney needs Ron Paul’s libertarian supporters to back his candidacy in the fall to defeat Obama. Paul had made auditing the Federal Reserve a central part of his candidacy, and his “Audit the Fed” bill passed the House earlier in the year.

Paul’s “Audit the Fed” provision also made it into the GOP’s draft platform, clearing the way for it to be voted on next week for inclusion into the party’s official platform.
