GOP Convention to Feature Women Govs; Democrats May Have None After 2012

Democrats have constantly argued Republicans are waging a “war on women,” but Democrats, unlike Republicans, may have no female governors after the 2012 elections. 

Republicans have female governors in Oklahoma (Mary Fallin), Arizona (Jan Brewer), New Mexico (Susana Martinez), and South Carolina (Nikki Haley), while Democrats only have two female governors, Christine Gregoire of Washington and Bev Perdue of North Carolina. Two of the Republican female governors (Haley and Martinez) are also minorities. Republicans will prominently feature Haley, Martinez, and Fallin in primetime this week at the convention. 

Gregoire and Perdue will not run for reelection in 2012, so after the 2012 elections, Democrats may have no women governors. 

On Monday, Barack Obama’s Twitter account tweeted, “Make sure the women in your life know: The GOP wants to take us back to the 1950s on women’s health…”

Such tweets are meant to further the mainstream media’s narrative that Republicans are hostile toward women. But while Democrats do have prominent women Senators like Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer from California, Democrats are not electing women to executive positions, and the mainstream media conveniently does not call them out on it. 

This is yet another example of Democrats’ actions not matching their words. For instance, Democrats have accused Republicans of being against “equal pay” while women in Congressional offices of Democrats make less than their male counterparts. In Obama’s White House, women staffers make less than male staffers.

Democrats can accuse Republicans of trying to turn back the clock on women’s issues, but that will be tougher to do when prominently elected Republican women executives at the Republican National Convention are juxtaposed next to unelected speakers like Sandra Fluke and Caroline Kennedy at the Democratic National Convention.
