Obama Underperforming in Ultra-Liberal California

Even in ultra-liberal California, a state Barack Obama won by a record 24 points in 2008, Obama only has a 14-point lead over Mitt Romney. Enthusiasm for Obama’s reelection is down considerably.

According to a USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll, Obama leads Mitt Romney, 54%-40%, but his lead is “diminished” because of his failure in 2012 to “pull in people who don’t traditionally support Democrats.”

More than half of Californians (51%) also thought the nation was moving in the wrong direction under Obama. This is yet another “blue” state in which Romney is doing better than McCain in 2008.

The poll was conducted October 15-21 and surveyed 1,504 registered California voters and the margin of error was +/- 2.9 percentage points.
