RNC Spokesman: Priebus Never Promised Outside 'Autopsy'

The RNC confirmed this morning that its recently announced “autopsy” effort on the 2012 campaign — which will be conducted by establishment Republican insiders — is the only official review of the 2012 campaign they are conducting.

In an email sent to Breitbart on Wednesday, Republican National Committee Communications Director Sean Spicer suggested that RNC Chairman Reince Priebus had never offered a “full autopsy” conducted by outsiders. Spicer stated “you claim Priebus promised to have outsiders conduct it — where was the promise made?  I see you are citing Politico (linking to a meeting he had in NYC with donors)…..who cited unnamed sources. What Reince said at the event and Politico did concede was that he did say was that it would not be led by RNC staff.”

If the new position of the RNC is that the review does not have to be conducted by “outsiders,” so long as it is conducted by non-RNC staff, that position is insufficient. Republican establishment players were largely responsible for the failures of the Republican 2012 effort. Priebus’ attempt to have non-RNC staff Republican insiders conduct the investigation is a sop to the establishment that brought the Republican Party its 2012 devastating loss.
