Colorado Dem. Introduces Bill to Ban High-Capacity Magazines

On Thursday, Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) introduced legislation to ban high-capacity magazines.

Though gun control advocates are hoping to use last month’s Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre to pass more restrictive gun-control legislation, “odds are against the magazine legislation passing the Republican-dominated House of Representatives.”

DeGette’s district includes Columbine High School, site of the 1999 school massacre. She co-authored the bill with Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), who has been one of the strongest gun-control advocates in Congress. McCarthy was elected to the House after her husband was shot and killed in 1993 in a mass shooting on a New York commuter train.
