Al Gore Now Richer Than Romney

Al Gore is now richer than Romney, due to his sale of his Current TV network to Al-Jazeera. Gore has spent his time over the last two decades railing against oil companies while profiting from them, and who is part of a party that vilified Mitt Romney for his wealth. Gore grabbed $100 million from the sale, which added to his own vast personal wealth. This puts his fortune at over $300 million, more than Romney. (Don’t even mention the people who lost their jobs as a result of the sale; unemployment is not a primary Democratic concern.)

Ryan Mac, a Forbes analyst, said:

Taking into account taxes to be paid on the deal, possible earlier debt and the fact that Gore’s representatives declined to comment, Forbes conservatively estimates the former vice president’s net worth to be at least $300 million, making him wealthier than unsuccessful Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Last May, Forbes estimated Romney’s net worth to be around $230 million.

Gore has always been a hypocrite about oil; in 2001, Occidental Petroleum finished destroying the 100 burial grounds and holy places of the Kitanemuk Indians in the Elk Hills of central California. The politician who helped make sure Occidental got the drilling rights was Vice-President Al Gore in 1995. His former campaign manager Tony Coelho was on the board of directors of the company hired to assess the environmental consequences of the sale. What Gore didn’t tell people was that he owned stock in Occidental; before the sale of the land his stock was worth between $250,000-$500,000, afterward it was worth between $500,000 and $1 million.

Now he’s richer than Romney.
