Chicago Alderwoman, Jesse Jackson Jr.'s Wife, Resigns

On the heels of the embattled Jesse Jackson, Jr.’s resignation from Congress, his wife, Sandi Jackson, has now too resigned from her post as the alderwoman in Chicago. Just one month ago, Ms. Jackson denied reports that she was considering stepping down.

Jackson sent a letter to Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office stating the following:

After much consideration and while dealing with very painful family health matters I have met with my family and determined that the constituents of the 7th Ward, as well as you Mr. Mayor, and my colleagues in the City Council deserve a partner who can commit all of their energies to.

The Jackson family has been under immense public scrutiny since Jackson, Jr. resigned just before Thanksgiving. Jackson claimed to be suffering from bi-polar disorder. After spending time receiving treatment in the Mayo Clinic, he acknowledged publicly that he was the subject of an ongoing federal investigation.

His wife, Sandi, had also recently taken heat from the public for living in Washington, D.C. while serving as alderwoman in Chicago. Breitbart News also reported on Chicago residents’ frustrations with Sandi Jackson over her role in securing $98 million in taxpayer money for the nation’s largest planned urban development (PUD) on Chicago’s south lake shore.

The chairman of the company behind that project, Daniel McCaffery, has donated generously to Jesse Jackson, Jr.’s past election campaigns.

CBS 2 Chicago reports that it is Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s responsibility to appoint a replacement when an alderman leaves office in the middle of a term.
