On Friday, former Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) told the Boston Herald that he will not be running in the Massachusetts special election that will be held on June 25th to replace John Kerry in the Senate.
Brown’s announcement followed a statement from Republican Charlie Baker that he would not seek the open seat, leaving two Democrats as the only candidates currently in the race: U.S. Rep. Edward Marke and U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch.
Baker is expected to push for Republican William Weld, the former governor of Massachusetts, to run for Kerry’s seat now that Brown has taken himself out of the race.
Governor Deval Patrick’s former chief of staff, William Cowan, will serve in an interim capacity until the June 25th special election to fill the open Senate seat. The primary will be held on April 30th.
