Chicago Teen Shot, Killed Hours After Obama's Gun Control Speech

Just hours after Obama finished giving his gun control speech in  Chicago, an 18-year old girl was shot and killed in North Chicago.

Her name was Janay McFarlane, and reports indicate the bullet with which she was shot was actually intended for someone else.

This is a tragedy in any city, at any time. But in Chicago in particular, at this point in time, it reminds us that gun control laws are simply not the solution. And more talks on gun crime won’t fix anything either.

Criminals don’t listen to talks on gun crime and they don’t obey gun control laws.

Far from demonstrating the viability of the gun control argument, Chicago proves the irrationality of it. As Obama himself pointed out on Feb. 15, so many people 18-years old and younger are killed in Chicago that the city actually has “its own Newtown every four months.”

McFarlane is but the latest victim.

In honor of her can we not cease the push to disarm law-abiding citizens and take up instead the more rational goals of locking up criminals and enforcing the approx. 9,000 gun laws that are already on the books?

Chicago has reached a tipping point where criminals no longer fear ramifications for their actions. An armed citizenry is one of the quickest ways to change that, but a politician with the courage to stand up and say these things is also needed.

Have you noticed that more gun control equals more crime? Chicago proves it.
