Pro-Life Groups Launch New 'Conscience' Campaign

Over 30 groups, including the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List), launched the Call2Conscience Campaign to encourage Congress to include language that protects all Constitutional rights in any “must-pass” legislation.

The first topic is the HHS mandate that forces employers to pay for insurance that covers medical procedures and items such as abortion-inducing drugs. This mandate makes people violate their religious or moral convictions. The SBA List wants Congress to remember non-religious citizens also find this mandate appalling.

“There must be no religious ‘test’ by the government as to who, and what type of entities, are entitled to a conscience,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “We demand respect for non-religious entities such as the Susan B. Anthony List that recognize the taking of human life is the antithesis of health care. Congress must act immediately to ensure the right of citizens to be free from government compulsion of this most fundamental issue.”

Young adults are also jumping on board; they realize this mandate violates their 1st Amendment rights and think it is unfair the administration is choosing who gets their religious freedoms protected.

“The so-called HHS Mandate ‘opt-out’ is not really an opt-out when only some of the prisoners of conscience are released while the rest are kept hostage,” said Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins.

Organizations and employers like Hobby Lobby and even human rights organizations like Students for Life of America are still being forced to provide abortion pills to employees. The First Amendment applies to ALL Americans, not just the select few the Obama Administration decides to give exemptions to. We must enact comprehensive conscience protections immediately to ensure our rights are upheld.

People can go to the website and easily submit a pre-written form or rewrite with their own response. The coalition will send it to the proper representative and senators.
