Jindal Teases Warren: 'From One Indian Politician to Another'

Louisiana Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal, whose parents are from India, ridiculed Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) at the Gridiron Dinner in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, telling her–“from one Indian politician to another”–he wishes her the best in the Senate.

“Great to see the new Senator from Massachusetts–Elizabeth Warren,” Jindal said. “My staff tells me we’ve got a lot in common. Well, from one Indian politician to another, I want to wish you all the best in your new job.”

During the 2012 Massachusetts Senate race, it was discovered that Warren’s name had shown up in directories and federal filings that listed minority law school professors. She had claimed, without any genealogical proof, that she was of Native American heritage throughout her teaching career. When confronted, Warren simply said her mother had told her she was part Native American, so she did not ask for or feel she needed to find any proof.

Jindal also made fun of Vice President Joe Biden’s tendency to stereotype people from India as owners of 7-Eleven stores by saying he “ran into Joe Biden earlier today,” and Biden “asked me to go get him a Slurpee.”
