Obama Hosts Steak Dinner for GOP Senators During Sequester

President Barack Obama has canceled White House tours due to the sequester, but hosted a steak dinner for twelve Republican senators on Wednesday as part of Obama’s charm offensive.

According to the White House, the dinner included steak, salad, sautéed vegetables and coconut sorbet.

On Wednesday, RNC chairman Reince Priebus said, “since the president has been complaining loudly about the cutbacks they’ve had to make at the White House–including tours for schoolchildren–due to the sequester,” it would be more appropriate if the country’s leaders also dined on a budget.

“In fact, I’d like to offer to order pizza for them and have it delivered to the White House,” Priebus said. “If we’re lucky, maybe the pizza will serve to illuminate an important economic point for President Obama: instead of redistributing the slices, the best way to make everyone happy is to make the pie bigger. It’s as true for dinner as it is for economic growth and opportunity.”

The senators reportedly discussed gun control, immigration reform, and the debt with Obama.

Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) organized the gathering on the Republican side, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) decided to attend on Wednesday. Those attending the dinner in addition to Isakson and Rubio included Sens. Lamar Alexander (TN), John Boozman (AR), Susan Collins (ME), Mike Enzi (WY), Deb Fischer (NB), Orrin Hatch (UT), Pat Roberts (KS), John Thune (SD) Roger Wicker (MS), and Mike Crapo (ID).
