Grassley: Don't 'Rush' Immigration Bill

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said in light of the Boston Marathon bombings, which were allegedly committed by individuals who immigrated to the US, that the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill should not be rushed because it is a bill that has to be done right.

In a Friday statement, Grassley said “experts that need to be heard on this bill,” and the Senate needs to “hear from people who live and work along the border.”

“This is not something to be rushed. We have to get this right. Otherwise the goal of the bipartisan group – to solve the problem once and for all — will not be met,” he said.

Grassley said that given the “events of this week,” it is “important for us to understand the gaps and loopholes in our immigration system.”

“While we don’t yet know the immigration status of the people who have terrorized the communities in Massachusetts, when we find out, it will help shed light on the weaknesses of our system,” Grassley said. “How can individuals evade authorities and plan such attacks on our soil? How can we beef up security checks on people who wish to enter the U.S.? How do we ensure that people who wish to do us harm are not eligible for benefits under the immigration laws, including this new bill before us?”

Grassley also emphasized that the Senate must discuss how the immigration bill will impact American workers and taxpayers.

“We need to understand how changes in our visa programs will affect businesses and American workers,” he said. “We need to know how new concepts will be put into practice. And, most importantly, we need to hear from the Congressional Budget Office about the impact this bill will have on taxpayers.”

These are the same points Rosemary Jenks, of Numbers USA, brought up with Breitbart News. As Breitbart News wrote, Jenks said giving amnesty to illegal immigrants would allow terrorists to receive brand new identities and cost the government $2.5 trillion dollars over their lifetime.
