GOP Introduces Bill Banning Abortions in D.C. After 20 Weeks

Representative Trent Franks (R-AZ) introduced a bill on April 26 banning most abortions in Washington, D.C. after 20 weeks.

He introduced a bill requiring this same restriction last year that failed to pass.

The Susan B. Anthony List (SBA) and other pro-life groups are praising the move by Franks. They see it as a viable way to defend life.

Speaking in support of Franks, SBA List Director Marjorie Dannenfelser said: “It is an outrage that in the shadow of the Capitol, children can have their lives ended through methods equally brutal to those employed by Gosnell.”

Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) has pledged to fight Franks’ legislation: “We will combat the insatiable Republican obsession with interfering with the rights of women in our city.”

Norton made no mention of the rights of D.C.’s unborn children.
