Biden: Obama Knows McCain Would Have 'Probably' Won Sans Financial Crisis

Vice President Joe Biden suggested Friday that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) may have won the 2008 presidential election if the economy had not “collapsed.”

“The truth of the matter is, Barack knows it, I know, had the economy not collapsed around your ears, John, in the middle of literally–as things were moving–I think you probably would have won,” Biden said at the McCain Institute for International Leadership in Sedona, Arizona. “But it would have been incredibly, incredibly, incredibly close. You inherited a really difficult time.”

Biden was on a panel with McCain that opened the weekend forum.

As Breitbart News has extensively documented, McCain and his team reacted poorly to the September financial crisis in 2008. Mccain campaign manager Schmidt decided to go “all-in,” suspending the campaign and threatening to skip the first presidential debate. McCain made matters worse when he was grossly ill-prepared during an emergency meeting at the White House with candidate Barack Obama and President George W. Bush.

It was at this point when the country began to see a first-term senator with no executive or small business management experience as a better leader than a veteran senator and war hero.
