On Friday, Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) told outgoing acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller that his testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee had been “offensive” and expressed outrage that nothing bad will happen to Miller because of what he deemed the “IRS Targeting-Gate” scandal.
“I’ll give this whole situation a name: It’s the IRS Targeting-Gate,” he said. “We are going to get to the bottom of it.”
Reed said it was not honorable that Miller is acting like he honorably fell on his sword when he was slated to leave the agency next month.
“You were not fired,” he said. “In my private experience, you would have been fired on the spot.”
Reed told Miller that “nothing bad is going to happen to you” financially because Miller is going to get his full benefits.
“That’s the level of accountability in Washington, D.C. today,” Reed said, noting that Miller is still the acting IRS Commissioner and was still being paid by the taxpayers to testify on Friday before the House Ways and Means Committee.
