Photos of Tucson Shooter's Gun and 'High Capacity' Magazine to Be Released

Police are releasing more than 300 photos from the January 2011 Tuscon shooting rampage that killed six people and wounded former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and 12 others. Among the photos to be released are pictures of Jared Loughner’s Glock handgun and his “high capacity” magazine.

According to Fox News, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department says the photo release will include images that were “part of the investigation as authorities gained evidence at the scene,” but not “gruesome crime seen images.”

The photographs of the shooter’s gun and “high capacity” magazine are being released approximately two months after the sheriff’s department released investigative reports showing Loughner’s “deteriorating psychological condition.”

This photo release was cleared by U.S. District Judge Larry Burns after the publisher of Tucson’s Arizona Daily Star, together with other publishers, sought their release. Gun owners should be prepared to see gun control groups around the country politicize the photos as soon as they are released.
