President Barack Obama and Gov. Chris Christie, the odd couple of politics, are finding common cause again.

Obama is touring New Jersey’s beach communities with Christie on Tuesday, examining the recovery from Hurricane Sandy’s devastating damage last October.

The trip gives Obama a chance to showcase the widely praised Federal Emergency Management Agency at a time when attention has focused on the Internal Revenue Service and its targeting of conservative groups. He also gets to draw attention to the kind of bipartisanship that has been harder to find in the nation’s capital.

Christie benefits by promoting the state’s boardwalks and beaches, which are key to the state’s economy. Having Obama at his side can’t hurt as he seeks re-election in a Democratic-leaning state.
