Carney: Michelle Handled Protester Brilliantly

White House spokesman Jay Carney asserted that Michelle Obama responded “brilliantly” when an activist heckled her at a private fundraiser. When asked if he had any dialogue with Barack Obama about Michelle’s actions, Carney stated, “I haven’t asked the president that, but it’s my personal opinion that she handled it brilliantly.”

So brilliantly, in fact, that the official White House transcript left out a complete version of what happened.

Michelle was at a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee at a private home when Ellen Sturtz, with the pro-LGBT rights group GetEQUAL, started heckling her. Michelle responded, “One of the things that I don’t do well is this.  Do you understand?” Announcing she would leave, Michelle left the lecturn and approached the heckler, while telling the audience that they could “listen to me, or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving. You all decide. You have one choice.”

Strangely enough, Michelle’s threat that she would leave was not included in the official White House transcript, which only wrote that there was an “Inaudible audience interruption.”

Sturtz, who was protesting an executive order that would prohibit federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, was made to leave.
