New York Post Claims Eliot Spitzer's Wife Wants Divorce After Election

The New York Post is reporting Silda Spitzer, the wife of Eliot Spitzer, is planning to divorce him after the election for New York City comptroller.

Spitzer resigned as governor of New York on March 12, 2008 after it was revealed he was “Client 9” of the escort service Emperors Club VIP. He is now running for New York City Comptroller against Kristin Davis.

In May, the Post‘s Page Six revealed the couple were living apart. Eliot Spitzer is living in a building owned by his father, less than 20 blocks away from the home he once shared with his family. Sources told the Post he is living in the building to be with his ailing parents.

But now sources tell the Post Silda Spitzer has had enough from her husband.

One source tells us, “Silda is telling her female friends that she is done with him. She will file for divorce after the [Nov. 5] election.”

A second source told The Post’s Sally Goldenberg, “Silda is saying she is going to wait until this is all over. She has been telling friends, ‘This is too hard. This is too rough.'”

Mrs. Spitzer never talked about the prostitutes or her marriage in the wake of her husband’s resignation. She is very private and other sources said she was upset he decided to run for comptroller because it means their relationship would be back in the news.

Mrs. Spitzer has been absent from her husband’s side as he campaigns for the position, unlike when she stood next to him at his press conference when he resigned as governor. She consented to his run only days before he launched the campaign. Last night, Spitzer finally admitted his wife would not join him on the campaign trail, claiming she has her own career:

I think it’s fair to say I’m running for office. No other member of my family is running for office. And I think the public is going to judge me, not who else is with me or not with me. She’s got a career. There are other things I think the public appreciates — I’m out here fighting every day for them.

The election will be held November 5th.
