Colorado Town Approves Construction of Largest Firearm Facility in State

Johnstown, Colorado’s town council has approved the construction of the USA Gun Institute, which will ultimately be the largest firearm facility in the state.

According to CBS Denver, the institute will be a “100,000 square foot complex [with] a retail gun shop, five indoor shooting ranges, and a restaurant.”

In July, USA Liberty Firearms owner John Mason said, “This is going to be an upscale place to shoot your gun, to learn gun safety, and to be around people who know gun safety.” In a more recent statement, USA Liberty Firearms said it “will break ground in September and [hopes] to open doors next August.”

Thompson Crossing is a “luxury home community” near the proposed site. Residents of that community fought against the firearms complex. Although gun safety will be practiced inside the building, they asked what will happen “outside in the parking lot when you have all these weapons going in and out of this facility?”

Thompson Crossing HOA president Rick Callahan said, “There is a lot of vacant land in this part of Colorado. We thought there could be a more sensible location.”

Other residents in northern Colorado may view things differently, as the USA Gun Institute will provide them with something they have few of at the moment–indoor shooting ranges.
