On Tuesday, Young America’s Foundation assembled a gathering of top conservative activists and students at the Reagan Ranch to celebrate the anniversary of President Ronald Reagan’s historic 1981 tax cut–the largest in American history. The event also focused on the victims of the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) targeting and harassment of conservative groups.
“Three decades after Ronald Reagan signed the historic 1981 Economic Tax Recovery Act, the ever-expanding role of the federal government continues to infringe upon the liberty of the people it governs,” said Reagan Ranch Director and YAF Vice President Andrew Coffin. He said the event highlighted “what President Reagan knew: ‘government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem.'”
Speakers at the event included American Center for Law and Justice Executive Director Jordan Sekulow, Tea Party Patriots Co-Founder and National Coordinator Jenny Beth Martin, and Linchpins for Liberty President Kevin Kookogey.
“As we look at the most pressing issues facing our country today–the economy, Obamacare, the rogue IRS–we can turn to President Reagan’s example for how to restore our Constitution,” said Jenny Beth Martin. “We must stick to the principles of a constitutionally limited, fiscally responsible government and show Americans how great America can be with those principles.”
President Reagan reflected that the only thing that would offer “long-suffering American taxpayers” greater relief than his historic bill would be “sending the Internal Revenue Service on a permanent holiday.”
President Reagan signed the 1981 Economic Tax Recovery Act on August 13, 1981, at his beloved ranch, Rancho del Cielo.
In the spring of 1998, YAF stepped forward to save, purchase, and preserve the Reagan Ranch.
