WATERVILLE, N.Y.
A cat that was found with an arrow shot through its body is recovering at a central New York veterinarian’s office.

James Gilchrist, the managing veterinarian at the Waterville Veterinary Clinic, tells the Observer-Dispatch of Utica (https://bit.ly/1fz427s ) that the 27-inch target arrow was still lodged in the cat’s abdomen when it was found last month in a field.

Gilchrist says the arrow entered the right side of the male cat’s abdomen between two ribs and exited from the left side just behind his ribs. It lacerated the liver, stomach and spleen.

The cat underwent two surgeries and is expected to survive. It has been adopted and will go to its new home Thursday.

Police in the rural village of Waterville, 40 miles east of Syracuse, are trying to figure out who shot the cat.
