Sen. Mike Lee to Congress: Listen to Americans Outside Beltway

The architect of the defunding Obamacare strategy appeared on Breitbart News’s programming of the “Exempt America” rally on Tuesday and said Obamacare could be defunded if Congress gets more in tune with the desires of the American people.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) appeared on the program with Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon and said, “I think we can win this, but we have to get Congress along with the American people.”

Lee said Americans outside the beltway are “overwhelmingly against” Obamacare, and, “this is the moment we have to get Washington on board with what the American people are demanding.”

He also lamented that it was both “sad and surprising” that a “junior senator” like himself had to lead the effort to defund Obamacare. Lee said “all Republicans should have been rallying around this issue.”

Lee also told Breitbart News that Washington “has a lot of inertia” and mentioned that a “few pundits and self-proclaimed leaders” often say that “direction X” is impossible, so everyone believes them and heads in the other direction.

Lee noted the same pundits and “leaders” said the same thing about how inevitable gun control legislation would be after Newtown, and he emphasized that such legislation did not pass, defying Washington’s  conventional wisdom.

“We refused to accept that,” Lee said. “This is another situation kind of like that.”
