Las Vegas Woman Gives Birth to Quintuplets

MESA, Ariz., Sept. 12 (UPI) — A Las Vegas woman who already had four children now has nine with the birth of quintuplets.

Evonne Derrico’s babies were born Friday in Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Ariz., a suburb of Phoenix, the Las Vegas Sun reported. The hospital announced the successful delivery Tuesday.

Deon Derrico, the quints’ father, told the Sun in a telephone interview from the hospital that the family is doing well: “Excited is an understatement.”

But he said he has some work to do to accommodate the five new arrivals.

“We have a vehicle for the family right now, but we don’t have a vehicle for the five others,” he said. “There’s just so much to figure out.”

The Derricos moved to the Phoenix area temporarily in preparation for the quintuplets’ arrival. Banner Desert has now delivered five sets of quintuplets this year, all born to parents from out of state.

Derrico said the quintuplets were not the result of using fertility drugs.

The two boys were named Deniko and Dariz, and the girls Deonee, Daician and Daiten. The couple already have twin sons, another boy and a girl.

The newborns are in neonatal intensive care at Cardon Children’s Medical Center in Mesa while their mother remains in Banner Desert.
