Sen. Mike Lee: 'Morally Unacceptable' to Fund Obamacare

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), the architect of the effort to defund Obamacare, said on Thursday it was “morally unacceptable” for lawmakers in Congress to vote to fund the health care law. 

Lee said the Affordable Care Act violates the religious freedom of Americans who do not want to be forced to buy insurance plans that cover abortion-inducing drugs that go against their religious beliefs. 

Lee, who spoke at the “Exempt America” rally on Tuesday, has insisted that the House pass a resolution to fund the government except for Obamacare. He, along with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), has said conservatives should then win the argument with the American people and convince them that Democrats and President Barack Obama would rather shut down the government than extend the carve-outs and exemptions he gave to Congress and big businesses to all Americans. 

CNS News asked Lee whether it was “morally acceptable for members of Congress to vote to give money to the administration to force Christians to act against their faith by providing abortion coverage and to force all Americans to subsidize abortions through insurance plans.” 

He answered, “No, and for a whole host of reasons it is morally unacceptable, and unacceptable as a matter of public policy, to allow this law to continue to be implemented.”
