After CO Recalls, Manchin Quiet on Gun Control in Wake of Navy Yard Shooting

Following the September 16th Washington Navy Yard shooting, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) was notably absent from the list of Democrats calling for more gun control.

Manchin’s constituents are some of the most pro-gun in America, and Manchin has spent the last nine months talking more and more about gun control.

However, following the Navy Yard shooting, Manchin did not mention gun control, and he did not join Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) in calling for more gun laws. Instead, Politico reported that one of Manchin’s aides said the Senator would not push for expanded background checks “in the wake of” the Navy Yard shooting.
