Sen. Vitter Supports Ted Cruz Strategy to Defund Obamacare

More GOP senators continue to buck Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s efforts to gain support for a plan that will allow Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to fund Obamacare using a procedural trick in the Senate that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is fighting against.

The latest GOP senator to join Cruz’s fight and endorse his strategy is Sen. David Vitter (R-LA). This comes after it was publicly reported first on Breitbart News that McConnell and John Cornyn, Cruz’s Texas colleague, are actually whipping votes against Cruz.

“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has indicated one of his first amendments after that will be to gut the provision in the bill that defunds Obamacare,” Vitter said in a statement provided to Breitbart News. “I’ll continue to fight President Obama & Senate Majority Leader Reid’s efforts to fund Obamacare.”

Vitter’s spokesman added that he will be following Cruz’s strategy and voting “no” on cloture.

Vitter’s support for Cruz’s strategy comes after Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) helped Cruz carry it, while Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)–McConnell’s Kentucky colleague–has endorsed Cruz, as has Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).
